Phonics

At Redbourn Primary we want children to have the best outcomes when learning to read.  The Government recently gave validation to a number of phonics teaching schemes and we have reviewed what we have been teaching.  We have launched a new phonics scheme called Monster Phonics, as part of our school identified priorities for improvement.

The Monster Phonics Programme, introduces monster characters which represent different sounds and there are also ghosts, a tricky witch and black cats.  It is an approach that uses, colour, actions, songs and stories to support children when learning to read.

We are delighted with how well the introduction to Monster Phonics has gone. The children have loved learning about the characters and we have already seen progress in their phonic skills.
