Good Morning Team Lime and Willow!
Opening my email inbox yesterday highlighted to me how creative you and your families are. In Lime Class I have seen a 3D model of the solar system being built with the help of a sibling and in Willow Class I have seen some origami planet models, both of which paid lots of attention to detail in their own ways and used colour for a purpose. I wonder if you were to make a model of a planet, a star or the solar system… what media and materials would you use? How would you create different textures to make it look real?
Today you might like to:
Get some fresh air by going for a walk, into your garden or complete an exercise video online (see website list). Alternatively, can you fold paper to make a paper aeroplane and see if you can fly it into space.
HAVE A CIRCLE TIME (PSED)
Explore real bubbles or draw and colour in bubbles to have a mindful moment. You might like to watch ‘Zen Den - Thought Bubbles’ and join in: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xUUq0HuSLS0
COMPLETE A MORNING ADULT DIRECTED LEARNING ACTIVITY (M)
Have a dough Disco!!
Practise handwriting. Look at your last piece of writing. Choose two letters that you find tricky to write. Practise writing these. Use doorway on line to support.
https://www.doorwayonline.org.uk/activities/letterformation/ You might like to write these letters in flour, salt, sugar, sand in a tray before using a pencil.
LEARNING THROUGH PLAY
Play for at least an hour in the morning and in the afternoon with no TV or electrical gadgets.
Enjoy a drink and a healthy snack with your child. You might like to talk about how and why it is important to keep healthy and where food comes from.
READING FOR PLEASURE
Read to your child a story or two. Don’t forget to talk about: the title, author, illustrator, blurb, what is happening and where, what has been said, how characters are feeling and what they might be thinking. Can you recall the sequence of the story? Beginning/middle/end?
READ TO LEARN SKILLS AND APPLY THEM
Write the sentence below on a piece of paper. Can you read the sentence (Phase 4), applying what you know about the diagraphs (two letters, one sound) ‘tt’, ‘ee’, and ‘ai’? Where are the tricky words (there are none)? Where are the capital letters? Why is there a capital letter in the middle of the sentence (name and place name)? Where is the full stop? Where did they go? How long did Fred and Brett spend in Spain?
Fred and Brett spent a week in Spain.
Listen to your child read and discuss their book. Look on the website Oxford owl for free eBooks if required or you can use books from your book corner. Read the book together stopping to allow your child to read the words you think they might know.
PRACTISE YOUR PHONICS
Complete the DfE Letters and Sounds lesson on: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCP_FbjYUP_UtldV2K_-niWw/channels?view_as=public and/or use your phonics skills to make a poster to display in your bedroom window. It
could show who you want to say thank you to or it could be a special message you would like to share with the people who can see it as they walk by.
HAVE A 5 MINUTE MATHS MEETING
Look at a calendar with a grown-up. Can you see the different days of the week and months of the year? Can you find the month you were born in? When is your birthday?
With a grown-up, make a simple calendar. You could make it for a week or for a month. You will need to write the days of the week and could write the month too. Use your calendar to write down special events and activities. Can you use the words; day, week, month, tomorrow, yesterday and next week?
COMPLETE AN AFTERNOON ADULT DIRECTED LEARNING ACTIVITY (PSED & UW - Assembly - THRIVE Values)
This half-term the value we are focusing on is empathy. Have a look at the assembly PowerPoint in the links below. Recap on THRIVE (Team/ Healthy/ Responsible/ Innovative/ Valued/ Empathy). When you get to the picture of the Sesame Street Character, watch the video in the link and discuss: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9_1Rt1R4xbM&feature=youtu.be
I look forward to hearing about what has kept you busy today and hope you and your family have a good day.
