Hello Team Acorns,

We enjoyed seeing your learning yesterday and know that you have been enjoying the ‘Very Hungry Caterpillar’ activities. Lyla even acted out the story for us.

Here are some activities we thought you might like to try today:

Phonics: Choose two or three sounds to focus on today (from s, a, t, p, i, n, m, d, g, o, c, k, ck, e, u, r, h, b, f, l) Go on a treasure hunt around your house and see how many things you can find starting with those sounds. You could challenge yourself and make a list of the objects you found.

Physical Development: Can you make a paper chain caterpillar? Have some strips of paper (green if you have them) and a different colour for the head. Can you fold and stick the paper to make a caterpillar? An example is shown in the resources.

Mathematical Development: We would like you to play a game today with a dice and a number of the same objects. Throw the dice and use the objects to match the number pattern on the dice – how many do you have? Can you re-arrange them in a different way? Do you still have the same number? Repeat for different dice patterns.

Story: Read ‘Monkey Puzzle’ by Julia Donaldson. If you don’t have it you can find it here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DgeKHjLSQUM Can you spot the links between the butterfly and caterpillars we have been learning about this week?

Creative Development - Can you make a symmetrical butterfly painting today? Fold a piece of paper in half and paint wings and a pattern on one side. See what happen when you fold it and then unfold it again. Have any of the colours mixed?

Have a lovely day,

Best wishes

Mrs Keith and Mrs Grimes
