Trip to Whipsnade Zoo
Reception visited Whipsnade Zoo on Wednesday 12th June. They travelled by double decker, which was exciting for all and a first for some!
We all had the opportunity to take part in an educational workshop on Habitats, learning about the different types of habitat and which animals can be found living in each of them. During this session we also had the chance to stroke a rat called Raffles. We were very brave, although the grownups were not so keen.
The rain held off and we managed to do lots of steps whilst walking round the zoo, visiting many of the animals. It was a delight to hear the children converse over what they were observing and the vocabulary they used was truly exceptional. Thank you to all of the parent helpers who volunteered their time to come along.
The Reception classes have had the opportunity to have Living Chicks. We had the eggs which hatched into chicks. We have been looking at similarities, differences and how to take care of them. We noticed that they stand in a huddle when not sure, just like we do with our families. They have now flown the nest of the school to their new homes and we look forward to a visit from Mrs Hinchcliffe’s hens.
Mrs Balaceanu has been supporting us to do some woodwork in Learning Through Play. We have learned how to use a hammer and nails safely.
We have been finding out about minibeasts. We went on a bug hunt at Woodlands and out in the Early Years garden.
